Modal Damping Form

Three options for modal damping are available. The input required for the form depends on which of the options is selected.

Access the Modal Damping form as follows:

  1. Click the Define menu > Load Cases command to display the Define Load Cases form.

  2. Click the Add New Load Case button, or highlight a previously defined load case and click the Add Copy of Load Case or the Modify/Show Load Case button, to display the Load Case Data form.

  3. Select Response Spectrum, Time History, Steady State, or Power Spectral Density from the Load Case Type drop-down list and in the case of a Time History, choose the Nonlinear or Linear option for the Analysis Type, and Modal or Direct Integration option for the Solution Type, to display the  
    Load Case Data - Response Spectrum,
    Load Case Data - Linear Modal History,
    Load Case Data - Nonlinear Modal History (FNA),
    Load Case Data - Linear Direct Integration History,
    or
    Load Case Data - Nonlinear Direct Integration History
    forms.

  4. In the case of Response Spectrum, Steady State, Power Spectral Density, or Time History  with the Solution Type set to Modal, click the Modal Damping Modify/Show button to display the Modal Damping form.

     

    In the case of Time History with the Solution Type set to Direct Integration, click the Damping Modify/Show button to display the Direct Integration Damping form. In the Direct Integration Damping form, click Modify/Show Modal Damping Parameters button to display the Modal Damping form.
